This is the new on-line information service that allows partners in the Thames Gateway to pool and share information and knowledge. It provides interactive access to a wide range of information on Thames Gateway and its local communities. New version of Knowledge Platform launched

This represents the second major series of enhancements to the Knowledge Platform since the project began in January 2005. This new version features an enhanced mapping capability in which users can specify the number of ranges, values and thresholds and select different colour schemes to more clearly, highlight spatial differences between areas. In addition, we are now able to access indicators for those wards located within the Thames Gateway using the ward level census definitions used in the DCLG State of the Gateway Baseline Report. And finally and most importantly, we have added a document library to the Knowledge Platform which will allow us to publish a range of policy documents and research reports on the front page and links to other sites and resources. The intention is that the Knowledge Platform becomes more of an ‘information portal’ where indicator based data is co-located with policy documents. For example, feedback from our local authority users indicate that they would wish to have their own directory on the Knowledge Platform where locally based regeneration strategies could be co-located with monitoring data.

The darker areas of the map (Hackney. Lewisham and Rochford) show high proportions of residents employed in knowledge based occupations. The lighter areas indicate lower proportions of residents in knowledge occupations (Swale, Thurrock Newham and Barking & Dagenham).

Local Data
A key further development for this system will be to enable locally gathered data to be entered and displayed. As we – local residents, public agencies, voluntary and community groups, and private businesses – strive to shape the future of the Thames Gateway, we will need to work in partnership. It is important that we are able to share locally relevant information gathered from within the area. This system offers all partners an opportunity to ensure we genuinely understand local issues and can develop policies and services that address them.
